Welcome / Tawow to the Michel First Nation Website

Picture
Our logo with the Sun & feather at the top of the tepee is linked to: 'The Sun Traveller' or Louis Caliheue (L'Iroquois), a Mohawk from Ganawake, who was hired by the Northwest Company in 1800. The logo also has canoes (Louis was a canoeman and later a steersman) and paddles near the bottom of the teepee. Mountains on the Canoe allude to the Rocky Mountains and most likely, Jasper House where many 'freemen' went after leaving the company. Louis' son Michel was born in 1823. He later became the first Chief of the Michel First Nation and signed Treaty 6 Adhesion.
