The court challenges funding that we have applied for the past several years is very limited and does not fully cover our legal costs (which are accumulating). For example, we can not currently afford to pay our lawyers' (based in Calgary) travel costs to meet with us to discuss our case. As well, the court challenges funding will limit the number of expert 'Elder' witnesses that we can have testify on our behalf.

What will my donation be used for?
Any donations provided to the Friends of Michel Society will be used towards legal costs and not Chief and Council expenses or any other expenses (e.g. office rental, furniture, equipment, staff)
How do I confirm that my donation is used for legal costs?
The total donations received will be reported on to members at our annual general meeting (AGM) held each summer
I'm not a member but would like to support the Michel Band, How do I find out how my donation is used?
If you are a donor and would like a copy of our annual financial report - Please send an email to: michelband@xplornet.com with your name and mailing address and an electronic copy of financial report will be provided post-AGM (Fall 2010)
Will a receipt be issued or How can I get a receipt for my donation?
A receipt is immediately issued by PayPal when donations are made - Print out the receipt
Is my donation tax-deductible?
As the Friends of Michel Society is a not-for-profit entity created in lieu of our non-Band status (in order to receive funding) - the receipt is not tax-deductible
Will my donation be anonymous or will my name be published?
Your donation will remain anonymous unless you specify that you would like your name published
Will my name or email be visible on the website?
No, your email will only be sent to notify the Michel First Nation that a donation was sent, the amount that was donated and is not visible on the website

We accept donations of items for our AGM:
Usually, items donated are used to raise funds via raffle tickets sold at our AGM. Samples of items previously donated include: Televisions, Radios, bags, gift baskets. If you would like to donate door prizes for raffle at our AGM - Please contact michelband@xplornet.com
Office Equipment, Furniture, etc:
Currently, our office is not a permanent situation and thus we have no storage facilities for office equipment or furniture. We will notify you via this website when/if we are in need of office equipment or furniture such as desks, computers, printer/fax machine.
Your Time:
As Chief and Councilors are volunteers working for Michel First Nation as well as working full-time jobs - our time is limited to provide services to our membership. If you have limited income or feel you can contribute to the Michel First Nation in other ways than money as well as have some spare time on the weekend or evenings - Please contact Rosalind at michelband@xplornet.com
Fund-Raising Ideas:
Ideas in the past have included selling t-shirts and items on the website. Purchase of such items and selling items is not possible without all costs (purchase of items and printing costs) being donated in order to sell the items on the website. We can sell items on the website - however all such items would be donations for sale and sale proceeds would go towards the Michel First Nation legal costs. If you are interested in selling wares/items for donation on the Michel First Nation Website - please contact Carmen at michelfn@shaw.ca
Another interesting Idea for fund-raising is a fund-raising dinner and dance or renting a hall with a live band. As great as this idea is - again, we would require a hall space (free or donated), Entertainment, caterer (if food provided), Liquour license, and volunteers to organize and run event. If you would like to volunteer your time, skills and assist with such an event - Please contact Carmen at mailto:cpcallihoo2@hotmail.ca We could advertise such an event on our Facebook page and on this website as well as raise funds with volunteers selling tickets in advance.
